Program Description
Event Details
Richard Beckermeyer learned photography from his father while growing up in Michigan. After receiving a BA in Journalism and Spanish, and a BFA in Photography from Andrews University (Michigan), he worked in Sacramento, CA as a photographer and filmmaker for nearly ten years at a variety of non-profits, publications and foundations before moving to Pittsburgh.
Richard worked as the marketing communications specialist at Fallingwater for two years, a time he considers to be formative in his growth as a visual storyteller. In long-term documentary projects, he explores memory, space, time and healthcare.
His La Demencia series began in 2011 when he learned his grandpa (su abuelo) only had six months to live. He fought his failing health for six years after that. The decline of both of sus abuelos health and the journey to their final resting place brought him closer to both of them in a way that only creating shared experiences can.
Portions of the La Demencia series will be on view daily through Saturday 3/1.
A closing reception with Richard will be held on Saturday 3/1, 12pm-1:30pm.
