Artist Statement by Suzanne Werder

When I was invited to exhibit my work at the Sharpsburg Community Library, I was genuinely excited. For years, I’ve used the library’s computers to get work done.  This place has functioned as something of an office for me.

The pieces I chose for this show reflect themes of peace and serenity. My hope is that, as visitors look up from their screens, they’ll find a moment of visual rest—a breath of calm in the middle of a busy day. Art made by human hands offers an antidote to the artificial, attention-stealing, fear-driven consumer culture that surrounds us.

Thank you for taking the time to engage with my work. I hope it brings you a sense of stillness, even if just for a moment, no matter what you may be navigating in your life.
