Event Details
Join Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide with ANFT, Sandi Miller for a winter forest bathing (Shinrin-yoku) session at Frick Park (the group will meet at the fountain by the Environmental Center at 2005 Beechwood Blvd, 15217.) Shinrin-yoku, an immersive sensory experience, is a practice of spending time outdoors in a natural area and being in the moment to enhance health and wellness. It combines concepts of meditation and mindfulness through a series of guided invitations to allow you to relax and enjoy the present moment.
Throughout history women have always been the caretakers, whether at home or in the workplace. We multitask and get things done. That means we are usually in need of self-care. During a Forest Bathing experience, healing activities are incorporated to make room for listening, stillness, reflection, and heightened sensory awareness. A growing body of research demonstrates the physical and mental health benefits of walking in nature coupled with mindfulness.
We will be covering less than a mile of distance and we will mostly be in silence. There will be brief periods of sharing and a tea ceremony towards the end with time for reflection and discussion.
Sandi is a hiker, camper, kayaker, wicked good cook and is into fermenting foods and beverages. Things that make her happy: hanging a hammock by a lake and spending the day reading a good book.
