Event Details

Join us this Summer for a Short Story Writing Contest! The theme this year is Oceans of Possibilities, just like our Summer Reading Program! There will be a Youth Category (12-17 years) and an Adult Category (18+) with a winner and runner-up for both categories. The winners will receive $350 and the runner-ups will receive $150 for prizes! 

 

You have until August 1st to submit your entries by email to gelsiminof2@einetwork.net and the winners will be announced at our End of Summer Reading Party on August 14th. 

 

Here are the rules:

  1. Contestants may enter one work of original fiction, not to exceed 2,000 words, on the theme of Oceans of Possibilities. The finalists may be featured in a collection of stories to be housed in the Cooper-Siegel Community Library. The winner will receive a $350 prize and the runner-up a $150 prize.
  2. Everyone is eligible to compete except judges, Cooper-Siegel Community Library board members and employees, and the immediate family members of the above.
  3. Work published previously in any copyrighted newspaper, magazine, book, or other medium is ineligible. Writing for school publications may be entered. Entries must be original.
  4. Entries should be submitted no later than 5:00pm on August 1, 2022. Only entries in digital format will be accepted.
  5. A panel of judges recruited among local writers, teachers, librarians, and story-tellers will judge the entries. Judging and winner notification will be completed no later than August 14th, followed by an announcement on the Cooper-Siegel Community Library Website.
  6. The author retains the copyright of the submitted work, and agrees to publication in a collection of finalist entries that may be printed (in print and online editions) by the Cooper-Siegel Community Library. Winners may be asked to provide a photo to appear with their entries.
  7. The decisions of the judges are final. Submission indicates acceptance of all contest rules.
