Program Description

Event Details

Take a journey back to the Eighteenth Century as Dr. Franklin regales stories of his life and times as a boy to his role in the formation of our government. Who actually got the kite off the ground during that famous thunder gust? What profession did young Ben want to pursue? Hear him explain the circumstances of his common law marriage. What changed Franklin from loyalty to the Crown to American Rebel? What were some of Ben Franklin’s lesser-known discoveries? Why was he never President?

Ben will regale all these tales from his delegate’s seat in Independence Hall. He will also comment on his thoughts of this modern world. He will be delighted to pose with you for photos or selfies, sign copies of the original printed copy of the Declaration of Independence and answer questions.

About Patrick: After a tradesman career of wallpaper hanging, Patrick ("Pat") McBride became a living history reenactor portraying Benjamin Franklin in 2019. Pat has always had an interest in history as a long-time coin collector, but becoming Franklin was inspired by a suggestion from his good friend and 25-year reenactor, Dennis Boggs so he took the next economical step by letting his hair grow and purchasing a tri-corner hat. He quickly immersed himself in the 18th century by reading everything about Benjamin Franklin he could get his hands on. After a few years of reenacting, he's accumulated a wardrobe of colonial clothing from various vendors. His appearances include regional and national coin shows, history centers, colonial fairs, club gatherings, and social events. He is based in Pennsylvania but is available to travel and has performed in various states.
