Community Ink: Local Author Series
This community-focused series is designed to spotlight and celebrate the literary talent of Western Pennsylvania. This platform creates space for local authors to share their work, discuss their creative process, and connect directly with readers. These events feature book readings, lectures, signings, and Q&A sessions, fostering an intimate and interactive atmosphere. We've hosted authors like Marie Benedict, Brooke Barker and Boaz Frankel, Andy McPhee, and Clare Beams to name a few.
Our hope with Community Ink is to strengthen ties between authors and their local audience; showcase writers across genres, from fiction and poetry to memoirs and academic works; offer insights into the writing process, publishing journey, and the power of storytelling while providing visibility and encouragement for authors to thrive within their community.
How to Write a Novel: Part II is open to all writers, writers-to-be and writers in progress. If you missed the first class, no worries, there will be a recap to get folks up to speed. This class will continue our discussion of character development, writing dialogue that works, organizing research and ideas, and finally how to write an ending.
Writing a book is like giving birth to a child. Sometimes a wayward one. Join local author, A.E. Kayser for an in-depth look at what it takes to write a novel!
A.E. is from Pittsburgh and started her journey at Duquesne University, with BA's in Journalism and English. Annie is no stranger to the world of books and writing as she's been writing and editing for over 40 years. During her first year at Duquesne, she was fortunate to interview Pittsburgh Pirate and broadcasting legend, Nellie King which landed her a job writing for the Duquesne Sports Information Office. Her career expanded to radio, bookstores, printshops, book reviews, and marketing. She's passionate about aquatics and can be found at Fox Chapel High School supervising the Adult Education Aquatic program. Annie loves the smell of chlorine in the morning and has been working on the saga of Billy Running Fox for over 20 years. Find her novel, Out of the Ashes in our catalog here!
