Join us for the closing reception of The Language of Flowers: Paintings by Anette Duensing during the September First Friday. Anette will be onsite to discuss her art and process. A portion of art sales (25% per piece sold) directly benefit the library.

Anette Duensing is a physician-scientist and self-taught artist, whose work explores mixed media techniques that include watercolor, acrylics, mark making and handlettering. Abstract flowers and other botanicals are a constant theme in her pieces. The text in Anette’s handlettered elements is drawn from published poems or Wikipedia articles connected thematically to her work. More recently, Anette has also started to specifically generate text for each piece by prompting large language models, such as Chat GPT. Anette was born and professionally trained in Germany but has lived and worked in the Pittsburgh area for over 20 years.

Her show The Language of Flowers explores the interface between Nature’s beauty and the written word.

Anette is a member of the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council.
