Program Description

Event Details

We've all shopped at that vibrant spot between 11th and 33rd Streets in Pittsburgh but do you know the history? Once home to many mills and factories, today the Strip District, known primarily for its historic market, is home to dozens of tech and robotics companies including a rapidly growing residential population. Heinz History Center Affiliates Program Manager, Robert Stakeley, will share some of the Strip District's history that you never knew!

Robert is the History Center Affiliates Program (HCAP) Manager, where he provides various levels of instruction and guidance for a diverse patron or member audience. Robert is a former librarian, archivist, and educator who has extensive experience in collecting, preserving, and providing access to collections.  He recently co-authored the book “Digital Storytelling as Public History: A Guidebook for Educators” published by Routledge.  A graduate of Shaler Area High School, Robert attended Duquesne University, where he majored in biology and history and minored in sociology and biochemistry.  He is married to his middle school/high school sweetheart, and has one son.  Robert and his family reside in the North Hills, where they all were born and raised – a common Pittsburgh story!
