Overview:

Join us for a discussion into the landscape of artificial intelligence (AI), where we'll explore recent advancements, as well as myriad opportunities and potential risks it presents. In the spirit of demonstrating AI's capabilities and its limitations, the speaker prompted an AI system to write an overview of his talk, and what it presented provides a decent enough description. We are sharing it here with some minor modifications made by the speaker (corrections marked and additions in bold): 
Join us for an informative session where we’ll we will decode the hype around artificial intelligence (AI). We’ll We will discuss what AI actually is, trace its history from sci-fi dreams to present-day chatbots, and spotlight the latest “generative” AI models that can produce original content like images and poems. While AI promises to augment human capabilities across areas like education and healthcare, we’ll we will also examine ethical concerns around issues of bias potential risks of perpetuating inequity and inflicting harm. This accessible talk aims to provides the  a perfect primer on both the profound potential and possible pitfalls of thinking machines ascribing intelligence to machines. No tech background required to enjoy  attend the discussion.

Aakash is an assistant professor in the School of Computing and Information at the University of Pittsburgh. Previously, he was a faculty at San Francisco State University. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science from Virginia Tech. He is interested in designing socio-technical approaches to supporting dignity, well-being, and the collective capacity of marginalized communities. His research lies at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI), learning sciences, and community development. Aakash directs a research lab focused on community-based design, examining issues around power, equity, and justice. You can find out more about him at https://aakash.xyz/.
